Word had passed around China that we were visiting Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, so most of the Chinese population came along to be with us on an oppressively humid day.
The Forbidden City was formerly called the Imperial Palace where all the emperors lived. It is on a massive scale (8000+ rooms) and took us several hours to walk through it.
We followed this with a rickshaw ride around Beijing’s old Hutong District, it was good to get off our feet.
